  • 12,072 acres (parcel L.R. No. 33285) in Mandera County have been vested to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
  • The land is designated solely for military purposes, with the MoD required to submit a detailed land use and management plan to the NLC within 180 days.
  • The plan must protect local community interests, including access to grazing areas and water points, and maintain 10 percent tree cover.
  • In January, the NLC also reserved another 10,000 acres for military use in Garissa and Tana River counties.
