A family in Mugutha, Ruiru Sub-County, is seeking answers from the Kenyan government regarding the alleged death of their son, Simon Wahome Gititu, in the Russia-Ukraine war after receiving information via social media and from the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

• Simon Gititu left Kenya in August 2023 for Qatar, then travelled to Russia in October 2023 for a promised better-paying military job.
• He communicated with his mother, Loice Wangari, initially expressing happiness about a contract and potential citizenship, before losing contact as he was reportedly sent to the front lines.
• The family last spoke to Gititu on November 16, 2023, and received news of his death on February 6 this year, through social media reports.
