The Ethics and Anti-Graft Commission (EACC) has confirmed an ongoing audit targeting ghost workers and individuals with fake academic certificates in the Kenyan public service. EACC Chairperson David Oginde warned that this "scourge" is denying qualified Kenyans employment opportunities and undermining integrity.
- Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) flagged more than 10,000 fraudulent certificates by April 2025 from 47,000 files examined.
- The Public Service Commission (PSC) identified nearly 3,000 confirmed forgeries in a targeted audit of 53,000 certificates by February 2024.
- 1,019 officers were caught with fake credentials, leading to the dismissal of at least 449 employees by January 2025, primarily in state corporations and senior government agencies.
