Kenya has launched a major initiative to boost livestock productivity with the commissioning of a Ksh 3 billion animal feed manufacturing plant by De Heus Kenya in Athi River. This facility aims to significantly increase output per animal, moving towards Kenya's goal of becoming a net exporter of animal products.

The De Heus Kenya plant, a subsidiary of the century-old Dutch company, is the largest pellet-making feed mill in the region, with an annual capacity of 240,000 metric tonnes.
Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mutahi Kagwe, stated the goal is to double milk production from 5.2 billion litres to 10 billion litres by improving productivity per cow.
The project is expected to create 280 direct jobs and over 1,000 indirect employment opportunities. It also includes an advanced laboratory for feed quality analysis.
