Kenyans seeking medical treatment abroad through the Social Health Authority (SHA) must now obtain approval from two doctors who confirm the condition cannot be treated locally, as announced by Principal Secretary Ouma Olunga.

• Patients must have their SHA contributions up to date and are encouraged to use SHA-contracted overseas hospitals.
• Health CS Aden Duale gazetted 36 specialised medical services unavailable in Kenya, with a maximum payable limit for overseas treatment capped at Ksh500,000 per patient.
• The new requirement aims to prevent unnecessary travel and ensure support for eligible patients, including post-treatment recovery upon return to Kenya.
