Kenyan Senators are demanding urgent government action against the proliferation of criminal gangs across the country, citing a worrying trend ahead of the 2027 general election. The concerns were raised during a session following a statement sought by Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda regarding rising insecurity.

• Senators highlighted the use of gangs for political expedience, extortion, robbery, and terrorizing residents in areas like Mombasa, Kisumu, Nairobi, and Eldoret.
• Mombasa Senator Mohammed Faki noted shop owners are closing early due to fear, with criminals molesting Kenyans and invading businesses in areas like Kisauni, Likoni, and Mtwapa.
• Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah attributed the rise in gangs to unemployment and a struggling economy.
