Twenty-two judges in Kenya have been awarded a total of Sh55 million in compensation for the violation of their rights. This stems from a 21-month delay in their appointment by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had cited undisclosed intelligence reports regarding their character.

• Each of the 22 judges received Sh2.5 million for the violation of their constitutional right to human dignity and fair administrative action.
• The High Court ruled that President Kenyatta's unproven assertions and prolonged refusal to appoint them gravely damaged their self-worth and professional standing.
• The judges were part of 41 judicial officers recommended for appointment by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), but President Kenyatta acted unconstitutionally by halting their appointment without reason.
