National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) CEO Dr. Purity Ngina has refuted claims that the government is prioritizing the empowerment of the girl child over the boy child, stating it stems from a public misunderstanding.

• Dr. Ngina emphasized that both boys and girls are provided with equal opportunities, with the focus being on reminding them of their potential.
• The NGEC boss highlighted that women still lag in representation in elected/nominated positions (holding only about 22%) and face challenges like early pregnancies (15%) and a lack of economic power, necessitating continued empowerment efforts.
• Dr. Ngina also addressed gender-based violence, stressing its impact on both men and women and the need to strengthen laws against technologically facilitated forms.
