Members of the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) unleashed a wave of violence across 20 Mexican states in retaliation for the death of their leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho”, who died in Mexican military custody on Sunday.

• El Mencho, Mexico’s most wanted man, died from injuries sustained in a firefight during his capture.
• The CJNG responded by torching businesses, blocking roads with burning vehicles, and causing panic in cities like Puerto Vallarta and Guadalajara.
• Over 250 incidents of road blockades were reported, with an aim to disrupt activities and instill fear following the death of their top leader.
