African editors have pledged to significantly enhance the safety and protection of journalists operating in challenging political and security environments across the continent.

• Journalist safety will now be a core professional and institutional responsibility, not merely a newsroom policy.
• The commitment was made on Wednesday during the biannual general meeting of The African Editors Forum (TAEF) in Nairobi.
• Editors also resolved to push back against the use of laws and administrative actions intended to intimidate journalists, and demanded the immediate release of imprisoned journalists.
