The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has assured the public that Karura Forest is safe, following public outcry over the construction of National Youth Service (NYS) barracks within its grounds.

• The KFS stated that the construction involves prefabricated metal containers within existing administrative zones, not encroaching on conservation areas.
• Key organizations like Friends of Karura Community Forest Association and the Green Belt Movement had called for a halt to the works.
• The project is part of a nationwide initiative to expand tree nurseries and boost tree seedling production to support the national goal of growing 15 billion trees by 2032.
