The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Kenya Power and Lighting Company employee accused of demanding a substantial bribe to restore electricity.

• The arrested employee, Bernard Githinji Maina, reportedly demanded Ksh.300,000 from a customer in Runda Mumwe Estate.
• The meter reader allegedly threatened the complainant with a Ksh.2 million electricity bill if the bribe was not paid.
• Maina was apprehended on February 27, 2026, while allegedly receiving Ksh.180,000, and was later released on a Ksh.50,000 cash bail.
