The United States has imposed sanctions on Rwanda's military, accusing it of violating a peace agreement in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by backing rebel group M23.

• The US cited the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and four officers, including its Chief of Staff, Vincent Nyakarundi, as critical to M23's gains.
• M23, a US- and UN-sanctioned entity, is responsible for significant human rights abuses in eastern DRC.
• Rwanda strongly refuted the sanctions, calling them "unjustly targeting only one party" and misrepresenting the conflict's reality.
