The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has commenced mass logging in Iveti Forest and Muumandu Forest in Machakos County, targeting mature trees for commercial purposes and replanting initiatives.

• KFS, led by CEO Climent Ngoriareng, is cutting down trees planted over 30 years ago.
• This action aligns with President William Ruto's directive to boost local furniture manufacturing by reopening lumbering activities.
• Revenue from timber sales will be deposited into the government treasury or used by KFS for forest management and replanting.
