The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has announced the cancellation of the planned strike by Meru doctors after reaching an agreement with the County Government. The union and county officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday evening, averting industrial action scheduled for March 6.
- A total of 24 doctors will be promoted to job groups N and R in March, with the remaining 65 receiving letters by April 1, 2026.
- KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah, leading the union, confirmed the agreement.
- Key issues resolved include promotions, employment of more doctors, study leave, and the absorption of contract medics, with 50% of study leave applicants to be granted leave and 25 doctors to be employed by May 2026.
