MultiChoice has announced the discontinuation of its streaming service Showmax after 11 years of operation, citing "substantial annual losses" as the primary reason.

• Showmax experienced Sh17 billion in losses despite generating Sh6 billion in revenue in its last financial report.
• The decision comes months after MultiChoice, the parent company, was acquired by French company Canal+.
• Some original Showmax channels will be rebranded and moved to sister company DStv, while affected staff will remain employed for three years post-acquisition.
