Kalenjin elders performed traditional rites to avert future disasters following the February 28, 2026 helicopter crash that killed Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno and five others.

• The tragedy occurred 18 years after a similar incident claimed the lives of former Roads Minister Kipkalya Kones and former assistant Minister Lornah Laboso.
• The victims include MP Johana Ngeno, pilot George Were, photojournalist Nick Kosgei, Amos Kipngetich Rotich (Kenya Forests Service), Carlos Robert Kibet Keter (teacher), and Wycliff Kiprotich Rono (Narok County government).
• Traditional Kalenjin customs, including an overnight vigil for married victims and specific rituals for unmarried individuals, are being observed ahead of burials on Friday and Saturday.
