Following a summit in Arusha, Tanzania, outgoing EAC Chairperson President William Ruto handed over leadership to Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, alongside the adoption of significant financial and operational reforms for the East African Community (EAC).
- A new financial contribution framework dictates that Member States with larger economies will contribute more to the EAC's annual budget, while 50 per cent of arrears owed by Partner States have been waived with a two-year grace period for the balance.
- The summit saw the election of President Yoweri Museveni as the new Chairperson of the EAC Heads of State Summit and the appointment of Steven Patrick Mbundi as the new EAC Secretary-General.
