The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has shut down an illegal Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) bulk storage facility in Mariakani, Kilifi County, due to severe safety concerns and a lack of operational licenses.

• The facility was operating without the necessary construction permits and operating licenses required by petroleum sector regulations.
• EPRA, in collaboration with the National Police Service and the Kilifi County government, conducted the operation on February 20, 2026.
• The unlicensed site was located in a densely populated area, dangerously close to schools, a mosque, a dispensary, a major highway, a community water point, a power substation, and a high-voltage electricity line.
