The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has commenced work on a national framework to provide compensation and reparations to victims of human rights violations, following a court ruling and a presidential directive.

• The KNCHR is developing a framework for compensation and reparations as mandated by a High Court ruling and a presidential proclamation issued on March 6.
• Commission Chairperson Claris Ogangah stated that the process involves technical work, mapping affected areas, and stakeholder consultations.
• Reparations will encompass more than just compensation, including restitution, rehabilitation, satisfaction, and guarantees of non-repetition.
• Victims are urged to submit supporting documents for verification by April 3, with the final report to be submitted to the president within 60 days.
