A fierce succession battle is underway in Emurua Dikirr Constituency following the tragic death of its Member of Parliament, Johana Ng'eno, in a helicopter crash on February 28.
- The late MP's widow, Nayianoi Ngeno, a lawyer and newcomer to politics, has been endorsed as the preferred candidate by the immediate family and clan.
- However, she faces challenges from Bernard Rono, a cousin endorsed by a section of the Kapkaon clan, and businessman David Keter, who previously lost to Ng'eno twice.
- The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has stated the by-election will cost an estimated Sh59 million, with the writ expected 90 days after the seat is officially declared vacant.
