The Western Region school games in Vihiga County are set to be a high-stakes competition as six national champions vie to defend their titles and qualify for the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Term One games in Kisumu from April 7-11.

• The highly anticipated boys' rugby 15s contest features defending national champions Vihiga High School facing formidable former champions like Kakamega High School, St Peter’s High School Mumias, Bungoma High School, and Butula.
• In hockey, national champions Musingu High School will face former rivals Friends School Kamusinga (FSK), while national girls' champions Friends School Tigoi defend their title against contenders like St Cecilia Misikhu.
• Other sports featured include handball with reigning national and East Africa champions St Luke’s Kimilili and Moi Girls Kamusinga, and basketball with Butere Girls High School aiming to defend their titles.
