US President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, threatening to 'obliterate' its power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully opened to shipping traffic.

• The threat comes as Iran has effectively closed the strait in retaliation for the US and Israel launching a war against them on February 28.
• US President Donald Trump, posting on his Truth Social platform, stated: "If Iran doesn't FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!"
• The closure of the strait, through which around a fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas passes during peacetime, has sent fuel prices spiking worldwide.
