Kenya is set to introduce new regulations requiring worn-out vehicles to receive a formal 'death certificate' before decommissioning, disassembly, and recycling.
- 400,000 cars are currently in the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) database but do not exist on the road.
- The announcement was made by Dr. Juma Mukhwana, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Industry, on Friday, 27th March 2026.
- This initiative aligns with the forthcoming East African Automotive Assembly & Manufacturing regulations, expected from 1st July 2026.
