President William Ruto has appointed a seven-member National Infrastructure Fund Governing Council, a crucial step towards operationalizing a fund designed to finance large-scale infrastructure projects internally.

• The council will prioritize the recruitment of a Board of Directors and a Chief Executive Officer to manage the fund.
• Key members include Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi (Chairperson), Central Bank of Kenya Governor Kamau Thugge, and Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, alongside economic and banking experts like Professor Benedict Oramah of Afrexim Bank.
• The fund aims to raise up to Sh5 trillion over the next decade from private investors and other sources, focusing on commercially viable national projects in sectors like roads, rail, and energy, thereby reducing reliance on external borrowing.
