Human rights activist Francis Awino sustained serious injuries after being attacked by unknown assailants in Nairobi.

• The attack occurred on Tuesday in the city centre shortly after Mr. Awino addressed the media calling for the resignation of Energy and Trade Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi over alleged impropriety in the Energy and Petroleum Ministry.
• Francis Awino, a prominent rights activist, was beaten and kicked, suffering injuries to his head and left eye.
• The assailants reportedly tore his coat and forced him to the ground, leaving it bloodstained.
