The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has warned of a significant funding shortfall threatening preparations for the 2027 General Election, including voter registration and education.

• A funding gap of over Sh20 billion exists, with the IEBC allocated Sh41 billion against a required Sh67.1 billion.
• The IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon highlighted that this deficit could impact voter registration, education, technology, staffing, and logistics.
• Despite the financial strain, voter registration is progressing, with approximately 850,000 new voters registered in the first nine days, and the commission targets an additional 6.3 million to 6.8 million new voters.
