The discovery of a photograph believed to be of the legendary Giriama warrior Mekatilili wa Menza has excited cultural enthusiasts and officials from the Malindi District Cultural Association.

• The photo is believed to have been taken while Mekatilili was detained in Kisii Prison.
• The Malindi District Cultural Association, working with experts from the Uhuru Gardens People's Museum, authenticated the image.
• Mekatilili led a historic uprising against British colonial rule in 1913, resisting forced labour and land seizure.
