The race to appoint substantive Vice-Chancellors for the University of Nairobi (UoN) and Kenyatta University (KU) is nearing its conclusion, with University Councils set to finalize selections from shortlists provided by the Public Service Commission (PSC) in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary for Education.

• The PSC has forwarded three top candidates for each institution to their respective councils after conducting interviews in March 2026.
• KU Council chairperson Prof Clara Momanyi and the UoN Council confirmed the process is ongoing and entering a critical stage.
• Previous attempts to fill the UoN position were marred by irregularities, including a candidate declining the role and an acting VC appointment being nullified.
