After a decade of striving and a remarkable 250km walk to Nairobi, hawker Duncan Kibet has finally secured a university admission to study English Literature at Mount Kenya University.

• The journey to higher education was stalled for 10 years due to financial constraints after Kibet attained a C+ in his 2015 KCSE exams.
• Duncan Kibet, a determined hawker and father of one, undertook a four-day, approximately 250km trek from Bomet County to Nairobi in a bid to raise his tuition fees.
• His Member of Parliament, Richard Yegon (Bomet East), has so far paid Sh71,000 towards his first semester and accommodation, enabling him to report to Mount Kenya University on April 27, 2026.
