A Nairobi travel firm, Golden Key Travel Consultants, has reportedly lost Sh51.2 million in an alleged fake visa scam orchestrated by a man posing as a Canadian consulate official.

• The accused, Brian Reeves Obare, is charged with obtaining Sh51.2 million by false pretences, personation, and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
• The purported scam ran between January 2022 and January 2024.
• Clients who paid for visas were left stranded abroad, some facing denial of boarding, arrest, or being turned back at transit points.
