Algeria is the 29th country globally and the 10th in the WHO African Region to meet this milestone.
The leading infectious cause of blindness, trachoma, is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis and spread through contact with infected discharge.
This success is the result of a century-long commitment and the implementation of the WHO-recommended SAFE strategy.
