Maritime authorities have raised the threat level off the coast of Somalia to "substantial" following the seizure of a cargo ship by "unauthorised persons" on Sunday, marking a resurgence of piracy in the region.

• At least four vessels have been targeted in suspected piracy incidents in the past week.
• The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued the warning and has raised the threat level.
• Piracy had significantly decreased in the area until about three years ago.
