Kenya Railways has announced the gradual introduction of new economy coaches to improve passenger comfort, following complaints about the current state of their fleet.

• The upgrade to newer, more comfortable coaches is part of ongoing service improvements.
• The news comes as Kenya Railways expands its standard-gauge railway from Naivasha through Kisumu to the Malaba border town in Uganda.
• This SGR extension, which began in March 2026 and is set for completion in June 2027, aims to boost connectivity across nine counties.
