Tanzanian Bongo music star Sefu Shabani Ramadhan, popularly known as Matonya, has been released from Shimo La Tewa Prison in Mombasa after spending over 20 days in custody following rape allegations.

• He secured bond terms of Sh500,000, with his passport deposited in court and a restriction on leaving the court's jurisdiction.
• The artist, a Bongo Flava sensation, denies the rape charge, which allegedly occurred on April 7, 2026, in Nyali Sub-County.
• His release on Tuesday evening followed the completion and approval of all required bond processes, including the submission of documents from the immigration department.
