The Energy Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has issued a stern warning to Kenyans regarding the dangers of cutting trees near power lines, highlighting the risks of electrocution, power outages, and structural damage.

• EPRA advises citizens to contact Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) for the safe removal of trees near power lines.
• Failure to comply can lead to severe penalties, including fines of at least Ksh5 million and up to a 10-year prison sentence, as stipulated by the Energy Act 2019.
• A five-meter-wide corridor on either side of power lines must be kept clear by law.
