The Sh1.6 billion Ong’ata Rongai–Kitengela bypass in Kajiado County remains a "nightmare" for residents and businesses due to years of neglect and broken promises, with ongoing rains further exacerbating its deplorable state.

• The 30-kilometre road, a vital economic artery connecting Kitengela and Ong’ata Rongai, was last rehabilitated in 2014 for Sh232 million by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (Kerra).
• Despite multiple advertisements for tarmacking by Kerra and the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) over the past decade, the project has been hindered by a lack of funding, with the estimated cost now at Sh1.56 billion.
• Local politicians have repeatedly used the road's reconstruction as a campaign promise, which residents say "evaporates into thin air" after elections, leading to significant economic losses for sectors like construction materials production and quarrying.
