The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has voiced strong concerns regarding the increasing use of hired goons in political activities and called for swift action from authorities to restore order.
- NCCK Nairobi chairman, Dr Alphonce Kanga, condemned the practice of paying youth as little as Sh200 or Sh500 to disrupt events and intimidate citizens, deeming it a grave violation of human dignity.
- The NCCK urged the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prioritize investigations and prosecutions of those sponsoring such violence.
- The Registrar of Political Parties was also called upon to deregister any party found to be involved in recruiting, funding, or deploying organized youth for violent activities.
- Recent incidents that highlight these concerns include the ejection of Siaya Governor James Orengo from a funeral and violence marring several rallies organized by the Linda Mwananchi camp.
