The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has initiated the bidding process for the upgrade of the 142-kilometre El Wak-Gari and Gari-Rhamu road sections in Mandera County. This project is part of the larger 750-kilometre Isiolo-Mandera highway, financed by a Ksh28 billion loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
- A total of 142 kilometres will be upgraded, split into two lots: 74 km (Lot 1: El Wak-Gari) and 68 km (Lot 2: Gari-Rhamu).
- The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is the implementing agency.
- Bids for Lot 1 are due by June 23, 2026, with construction expected to take four years.
