The Social Health Authority (SHA) is reportedly owing healthcare facilities a staggering Sh77 billion as of last year, with the debt continuing to grow, according to Brian Lishenga, the Chairman of the Rural & Urban Private Hospitals Association (RUPHA).

• The total debt includes Sh44 billion owed by SHA and Sh33 billion by the former NHIF.
• Several union leaders, including George Gibore (KUCO Sec. Gen) and Brown Ashira (KEHPHPU Sec. Gen), criticized the government for focusing on registration numbers rather than addressing systemic payment failures and service delivery issues within the SHA.
• Abidan Mwachi, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union chairperson, emphasized the need to fix the SHA system to ensure healthcare availability for the most vulnerable, citing a lack of adequate healthcare workers and funds.
