A recent poll from Trends and Insights for Africa (Tifa) reveals that ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna is an emerging political force, potentially complicating plans for both President William Ruto and the opposition ahead of the August 2027 General Election.

A united opposition could defeat President Ruto in the first round of the election, as he may struggle to secure the required 50 per cent plus one vote.
The most preferred opposition ticket among supporters is a Kalonzo Musyoka–Fred Matiang’i pairing, garnering 31 per cent support, while a Kalonzo–Sifuna ticket is also strong at 28 per cent.
Among President Ruto's supporters, a Kalonzo–Sifuna ticket is preferred over a Kalonzo–Matiang’i lineup.
In terms of party popularity, ODM has overtaken UDA, polling 18 per cent to UDA's 17 per cent.
