Kenya has made regional history by launching its first comprehensive wastewater-based epidemiology report for drug control, a groundbreaking scientific approach to monitoring drug consumption trends in East Africa.

• The report analyzed 152 wastewater samples from 12 hotspot counties.
• The study was conducted by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).
• Key findings reveal a worrying increase in the use of synthetic drugs, New Psychoactive Substances (NPS), and drug adulteration, indicating a shift from transit to local production and consumption.
