Kenya experienced widespread disruption on Monday, May 18 as matatu operators launched a strike protesting soaring fuel prices, crippling public transport across the country.

• Thousands of commuters were left stranded as matatus, ride-hailing services, boda bodas, and cargo transport companies stayed off the roads.
• The strike saw major towns and highways affected, with protests and road blocks reported in areas like Nyahururu, Machakos, Nairobi (Roysambu, Kangemi, Uhuru Highway), Rongai, Nanyuki, Kakamega, Kitengela, Mombasa, Limuru, Kenol–Thika Highway, and Murang'a.
• The action intensified pressure on the government to lower fuel costs, leading to minimal public transport activities in most centers.
