WhatsApp is testing a new "After Reading" feature for disappearing messages on both Android and iPhone. This update aims to resolve issues where messages disappear before users can read them.

The deletion countdown for messages will now only begin after a recipient views them, with customisable timers of 5 minutes, 1 hour, or 12 hours.
The feature is being rolled out by Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp.
Unread messages will still be automatically deleted after 24 hours for security.
