Kenya has launched the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) Acceleration Plan 2026-2028, a national strategy aimed at eliminating preventable maternal and newborn deaths.

• An additional Ksh4 billion has been allocated to the Social Health Authority (SHA) to cover health insurance premiums for pregnant women.
• The initiative was launched by President William Ruto.
• The plan includes a six-month Maternal and Newborn Health Rapid Results Initiative and the recruitment and deployment of 5,000 nurses and midwives.
