Publishers are warning that Grade 11 learners may not receive textbooks in time for the January 2027 school opening due to a significant outstanding debt from the government totaling Sh9.5 billion.

• The government owes publishers Sh9.5 billion for previously supplied textbooks, including Sh6.2 billion for primary school books.
• The Kenya Publishers Association (KPA), led by chairperson Musyoki Muli, is urging the government to clear these pending bills.
• This debt is hindering the printing and distribution of approximately seven million copies of Grade 11 textbooks, putting operations for printers, distributors, and authors under pressure.
