President William Ruto has begun a three-day tour of Wajir County, focusing on development projects ahead of the Madaraka Day celebrations which will be held in Wajir town on Monday, the first time the national holiday will be marked in northern Kenya.

The President commissioned the Ksh639 million Habaswein Solar PV-BESS-Diesel Hybrid Power Plant, an investment by Kenya Power and Lighting Company, set to provide electricity to 8,565 households.
President Ruto also announced an investment of Ksh8.4 billion this year to connect over 53,300 households to electricity in Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa counties.
On education, affirmative action measures include employing an extra 100 teachers per constituency in northern Kenya and establishing four teacher training colleges.
