Kenya Railways is set to introduce electric trains on the Nairobi commuter rail network as part of the Ksh65 billion Kenya Urban Mobility Improvement Project (KUMIP), funded in partnership with the World Bank.

Key components include the electrification of the commuter network, acquisition of electric trains and Diesel Electric Multiple Units (DEMUs), and the construction of multi-modal transport facilities.
