The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has successfully secured the conviction of three individuals for escaping from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison, an act deemed to have prejudiced national security.

The three convicts were found guilty by the Kahawa Anti-Terrorism Court of committing a terrorist act under Section 4(1) of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 2012.
The prosecution presented evidence from 10 witnesses to prove its case.
The escape occurred on the night of November 14, 2021, and the morning of November 15, 2021, with the inmates recaptured two days later in Kitui County.
