The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has mandated that media practitioners intending to run for elective office in the upcoming 2027 General Election must formally notify the council.

• MCK CEO David Omwoyo stated the purpose is to prevent journalists from being unfairly disadvantaged while ensuring a level playing field in politics.
• The MCK is developing special guidelines for producers, broadcasters, editors, reporters, and photographers seeking political office.
• These guidelines will cover conduct, timelines for exiting newsroom duties, and stepping away from public-facing programs, with final regulations expected within 30 days.
